Daniel Rasic was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He studied medicine University of Manitoba and went on to a psychiatry residency in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His first foray into writing was writing medical research papers, uncovering how social forces impact mental health. A National Geographic article about piracy off of the coast of Indonesia inspired the story for his first novel about a physician working for a humanitarian organization in Somalia. His first novel, The Pirates of Aden, was published in the spring of 2011. He is working on his follow-up novel.
