Cole, David

David Cole

David Cole grew up, waaay up in Northern Michigan. Surrounded by Lake Superior on one side and trees every other which way, he turned to writing short stories during long winters and pesky black fly springtimes. His first story, submitted to Boy’s Life, was rejected with a kind note to keep at it. Forty years later, after a variety of careers – missile test launch planner, computer consultant, high school teacher, an early rock band where he channeled Elvis – Cole’s first book, Butterfly Lost, quickly sold to HarperCollins.

Six more books followed, all set in southern Arizona and featuring Laura Winslow, a half-Hopi, one-time-Ritalin-abuser computer hacker, living on the run while battling the demons behind her own anxiety disorder and finally becoming drug-free, in love, and a licensed Arizona private investigator.

A long-time fan of Ottawa and Toronto, David currently lives in Syracuse, NY, but when writing, he retreats to his casita in Tucson, AZ. He’s currently working on a police procedural, Worship the Gods, featuring a new main character, a detective who’s also a two-tour Iraq war veteran.
