 Jim Napier

 A lapsed member of WinOs (Writers in Oxford) and a member in more-or-less good standing of the Crime Writers of Canada, Mystery Writers of America, Britain's Crime Writers' Association, and the National Book Critics Circle, as well as a former teacher of crime fiction and creative writing, Jim pens a column regularly reviewing the best in mystery and crime fiction. Titled Suspended Sentences, the column appears in the Sherbrooke Record, Quebec's largest English-speaking newspaper outside of Montreal. Jim has also contributed to various e-zines, including January Magazine, The Rap Sheet, and Spinetingler magazine.

His reviews, interviews, and tributes can also be found on his website, www.deadlydiversions.com which contains a variety of resources for readers and writers of crime fiction.

             

In 2007 Jim served as a judge for the Arthur Ellis Awards, given by the Crime Writers of Canada, and in 2009 he chaired the Arthur Ellis Awards. He alsogives public talks on crime writing, crime writers, and the publishing industry as well as writing workshops.

Jim is currently writing a police procedural series featuring DCI Colin McDermott of the London Metropolitan Police. The first novel, Impurely Academic, brings McDermott back to his alma mater to face old friends and new foes in order to find the killer of a young female student. Ridley’s War, the second novel in the series, takes McDermott from Yorkshire to Italy on a quest to solve crimes both past and present. Both manuscripts are currently seeking a publisher, and a third novel is on its way.

A founding member of Kindred Spirits, a single-malt appreciation society based in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Jim and his wife Roya live in the same area, with their irrepressible Welsh Terrier, Whisky.
