The 2004 Golden Horseshoe Short Fiction Mystery Contest
The contest is open to all writers in Ontario, both published and unpublished. The story must involve a crime; all else is left to your imagination.
First prize: $100. Second Prize: $75. Third Prize: $50. Plus a one-year free Crime Writers of Canada membership to all three winners. In the spring of 2005, the Toronto chapter of Crime Writers of Canada has plans to organize a public reading of the three winning stories.
Stories must be original and 2000 to 5000 words. Three copies of a standard format manuscript should be provided, typed and double-spaced on white bond. Please include the title on each page along with the page number but not the author's name or any other author identifier. The author’s name, address, phone number, and e-mail address must be included with each entry on a separate cover sheet along with the story’s title and the correct word count. Stories must be original and previously unpublished. There is a limit of two entries per author.
Winning candidates will be asked to provide an electronic copy of their manuscript along with a 25–30 word biographical sketch.
A $10 cheque or money order, payable to Crime Writers of Canada, must accompany each manuscript entry. Please make sure to save your original story as copies will not be returned. Entries must be postmarked no later than September 30, 2004. Winners will be notified by January 1, 2005. The contest will be juried by three authors who are members of the Toronto chapter of Crime Writers of Canada. The jury reserves the right to declare fewer than three winning entries, depending on the quality of the submitted stories.
